According to nhlscap.com, Christian Ehrhoff has signed with the Sharks for three years at $3.1 M per year. I can't find the information on TSN or the Sharks main page, but assume it will be up this morning. It is currently 1:57 AM as I am typing this sentence. So what does this all mean? Well by jove (spelling?), we've got quite a situation on our hands. With Marcel Goc at arbitration (now is the perfect time to get his blog rolling again) and Ryane Clowe still unsigned (LEMME TELL YOU........

Avs Executive Vice President and General Manager Francois Giguere hasn't made much noise thus far in the offseason. Bringing in Darcy Tucker and Per Ledin (the so-called "Swedish Sean Avery") have immediately added toughness to the roster, but the Avs already had a tough roster with guys like Ian Lapperriere, Adam Foote, Ryan Smyth, Scott Parker, and Cody's McCleod and McCormick. Additionally, Andrew Raycroft's signing has immediately weakened the goaltending tandem, and Da...

With the aggressiveness of the Flyers in past seasons, you have to wonder where the big player signing is. Even the mid level free agents seemed to be passed on. I have to think Paul Holmgren has something working, or is tied down by management. Of course, it is increasingly difficult to sign free agents, and I have no idea what difficulties he is facing. I thought the Flyers would pursue several different chemistry guys. Matt Cooke, Ron Hainsey, Brian Rolston and Niklas Hagman a...

I know what you're thinking...The Wild puns never get old.  Me too.  In any event, here's the latest goings on with the Minnesota Wild organization. Another “Wild” Week The Wild have had a quietly productive off season so far this season, starting with their Day One acquisitions of Andrew Brunette, Marek Zidlicky and Craig Weller.  Going into Day Two, speculation was rampant about who the Wild would be picking up.  With offers being tendered to Kristian H...

The World has came to an end , well not literally but figuratively  with signing of Big Burt.  The Calgary Flames have signed Todd Bertuzzi  to a one year contract worth 1.95 million buckaroo’s (I do know it is not a word.).   Here is the story   http://flames.nhl.com/team/app/?service=page&page=NewsPage&articleid=367909

So far, this is what has been going on in the Stars camp. Niklas Hagman signed a 4-year deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs.  Antti Miettinen is now a member of the Minnesota Wild for 3 years. And Brett Hull and Les Jackson had the fantastic idea of signing Sean Avery to a 4-year, $15.5 million dollar contract.   Really HullJack?  The Stars are a very "team first" type of club.  I'm not really sure Sean Avery, of all people, fit into that dynamic.  Esp...

Not to say that Blake isn't a good pickup. He's going to help out on our powerplay and will also add some quality leadership that has been sorely lacking in our last playoff runs. But 5 million is atrocious. I'm going to assume for the sake of my mental health that this deal was made after Doug Wilson was completely sure that Dan Boyle was coming over in the Matt Carle trade. The Rivet trade just sucks. I understand that Doug had to pull the trigger to clear cap space ($3.5 M) and r...

As great as the 2008 Stanley Cup Playoffs were, much of what I read in online forums and newspapers was complaints about the NHL officiating. While I understand that consistency is necessary, I also think that we, as fans, are often too hard on NHL officials. Here are 7 referees that all have one thing in common: Paul Devorski, Kerry Fraser, Don Koharski, Dan Marouelli, Bill McReary, Mick McGeough, and Rob Schick. All 7 of these guys will have been an NHL referee for 20+ years at the conclusion...

It's no secret that the Avalanche have done little to improve the squad thus far in free agency. In years past, Colorado has been a prime destination for marquee free agents, including Paul Kariya, Teemu Selanne, Ryan Smyth, and Scott Hannan most recently. This offseason, however, Avs GM Francois Giguere didn't pursue even the 2nd-tier UFA's like Markus Naslund and Brian Rolston. He said after Marian Hossa signed with the Wings, "We're going to be spending enough money to ic...
