Report: Flyers to Sign Emery Print

It appears as if the ongoing battle between the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and National Hockey League (NHL) may become a little more interesting come the opening of the Free Agent period on July 1.

Various media outlets are reporting that former Ottawa Senators goalie, Ray Emery, will sign with the Philadelphia Flyers when the free agency period starts on July 1.

Emery spent last season playing in the KHL for Mytishchi Atlant after his contract was bought out by the Senators.  In 36 games in the KHL last season, Emery was 22-8-0, with a 2.12 Goals Against Average (GAA) and a 92.6% Save Percentage.

In 134 games with the Senators, spanning five seasons, Emery was 71-40-14, with a 2.71 GAA and a 90.7% Save Percentage.  In addition, he backstopped the Sens to the Stanley Cup Finals in the ‘06-’07 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Flyers General Manager, Paul Holmgren, has confirmed that the team has had internal discussions about signing the former goalie; however, he would not elaborate on the discussions.  It is believed, however, that the signing of Emery would mean that the team would part ways with both of their free agent goalies this coming off season, Martin Biron and Antero Nittymaki.
