In what is regarded as the NHL's toughest division, the Central's teams were active participants in the tempered frenzy that led up to Monday afternoon's trade deadline. Four of the Central's five teams appear set to qualify for Western Conference's playoff spots, while the situation in Columbus devolved to a new low, even by Columbus standards.

With few sellers and many buyers around the league, landing an impact player will come at a steep price. The success the Central's teams have had in 2011-12 may convince their general managers that they may not need to pay that steep price and allow them to roll with their current rosters into the postseason.
