Without hard evidence, It is journalistically irresponsible to speculate that Alex Ovechkin – or any other athlete – is using performance-enhancing drugs. Although columnist John Steigerwald admits to not having proof, he contends Ovechkin's offensive slide is due to the absence of PEDs.

Randy Carlyle had survived previous poor starts in Anaheim. This time, the quality of play was worse and his firing seemed inevitable.  Perhaps more of an upset was Bruce Boudreau taking over just three days after being axed in Washington.

Kyle Turris has potential, but a resume of two mediocre seasons does not warrant a lucrative contract. The Coyotes held all the leverage and used it by getting Turris to end his lengthy holdout Tuesday and settle on a contract. The obvious question: What was Turris thinking?
