What a game in Fenway, as a late surge by the Boston Bruins carried over into overtime and helped the B's skate away with a 2-1 victory. Overall, this was probably this writer's favorite of all the Winter Classics. There was a lot of physical play and a lot of up tempo, uninterrupted end-to-end action. The city of Boston put on a fantastic display at Fenway Park and this is definitely something that they can be proud of.
* A great game, punctuated by free hockey. How great is that? Bruins started the overtime with a 4-on-3 and a fitting finish to a great day of hockey.
* Hockey is a funny sport. Philadelphia controlled play for most of the game, but Boston got a surge late, tied the game and carried the momentum through into overtime with their powerplay.
* Tim Thomas and the Boston defense came up huge after the Richards penalty expired. Thomas made a couple sprawling saves and the defensive unit made a couple great plays to stop the surging Flyers.
* Marco Sturm, one of Boston's best players all night long, notched the game winning goal with a re-direction of Bergeron's shot as he goes hard to the net. Bergeron definitely showed why he is an Olympian there and the Bruins win the Winter Classic. Bruins 2-1 Final. |
