Todd Bertuzzi is a player that most hockey fans have a very strong opinion about, whether favorable or not. While he may not be the same player that dominated the league with the Canucks and the West Coast Express, Bertuzzi is showing with the Red Wings this season that he’s still an effective player.
1) Todd Bertuzzi, Detroit Red Wings – Big Bert stepped up his game on national television once more, scoring twice (including the game-winner, in overtime) to give the Red Wings the 3-2 edge over the Chicago Blackhawks. Tomas Holmstrom also scored for Detroit and Jimmy Howard stopped 25 of 27 shots.
2) Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles Kings – Quick helped Darryl Sutter best his brother Brent, stopping 29 of 30 shots to break a two-game losing streak by the Kings’ star goalie. Mike Richards, Matt Greene, Anze Kopitar and Dustin Brown all scored goals in the Kings’ 4-1 win over the Calgary Flames.
3) Cam Ward, Carolina Hurricanes – Cam Ward was spectacular against the Boston Bruins, stopping 33 of 35 shots to lead the Hurricanes to a 4-2 win. Patrick Dwyer, Justin Faulk, Jay Harrison and Eric Staal scored for the Hurricanes.
Play of the Night
Vernon Fiddler’s hard work pays off, as he gets the puck out of the corner, then circles around the net to collect the rebound with this beautiful backhand shot.
Save of the Night
The Wild might have fallen in a shootout, but Josh Harding wasn’t the reason why. Here, he makes a series of great saves, capped off by an unbelievable effort to rob the Blues of a goal.
Hit of the Night
Hip checks may be fun to watch, but Wayne Simmonds can proably attest to the fact that they’re not too fun to receive.
Fight of the Night
On a night of many fights, Matt Martin and Joe Finley got together for one of the better ones.
