There are a lot of things throughout the season that I could say that I wish ended up on 24/7 for either the Flyers or the Rangers. The locker room reaction to Daniel Briere dropping the mitts on Saturday night, though, has to be on top of that list.
1) Daniel Briere, Philadelphia Flyers – Briere tallied all three Philadelphia goals on Saturday, the biggest of which was the overtime game-winner with time winding down in the extra frame. Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 35 of 37 shots to get the 3-2 overtime win for Philly. One of the most entertaining moments came late in the second period, though, and I only wish this would have happened prior to the Winter Classic:
2) Shane Doan, Phoenix Coytoes – Doan scored a goal in each period, including bookends on four unanswered Phoenix goals to down the Isles 5-1. In addition to Doan’s hat trick, Taylor Pyatt and Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored for Phoenix and Mike Smith stopped 31 of 32 shots for the win. What’s most amazing, though, is that this is Doan’s first career hat trick. 3) Curtis Sanford, Columbus Blue Jackets – Sanford had to be perfect on Saturday, stopping all 31 shots that he faced against the Los Angeles Kings, including 14 in the third period. Grant Clitsome scored the lone goal for Columbus to give them the 1-0 win.
Play of the Night
Phil Kessel pulls out a move that would have made Gordon Bombay proud on Saturday, beating Jimmy Howard on a penalty shot.
Save of the Night
Curtis Sanford robs Anze Kopitar with a beautiful glove save to preserve Columbus’ one-goal lead.
Finally…
It’s nice to see that Vancouver and Boston still really don’t like one another. After watching this, who else is up for a Cup rematch?
