You couldn’t have scripted a better story for Matt Hackett’s NHL debut: Coming into the game in relief of an injured starting goalie, in the building where his uncle Jeff started the first game in San Jose Sharks history, then stopping every shot he faced to get the win.
1 Matt Hackett, Minnesota Wild – Hackett made his NHL debut Tuesday when starting goalie Josh Harding suffered an upper-body injury. He then stopped all 34 shots he faced against the San Jose Sharks for his first career NHL win. Mikko Koivu and Pierre-Marc Bouchard scored for the Wild, who won their fifth straight game.
2 Brendan Morrison, Calgary Flames – Morrison tallied two goals and two assists in Calgary’s 7-6 goalie duel with the Carolina Hurricanes. Jarome Iginla scored twice for the Flames and Lee Stempniak, Rene Bourque and Mikael Backlund all scored once. Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 28 of 34 shots to get the win.
3 Daniel Sedin, Vancouver Canucks – Sedin tallied a hat trick in Vancouver’s 6-0 win over the Colorado Avalanche. Jannik Hansen scored twice and Alexander Edler once for the Canucks and Roberto Luongo made 13 saves before leaving the game after getting hit in the neck by a Gabriel Landeskog slap shot, but Cory Schneider came into the game in relief and completed the shutout, stopping all 20 shots he saw.
