There was a lot going on in Vancouver on Sunday night. That happens when Roberto Luongo plays well. Lost beneath the latest twist in a season-long goalie controversy was the fact that Chris Higgins played pretty well, too.
1 Chris Higgins, Vancouver Canucks – Higgins had a big night in Vancouver’s 5-1 win over the Calgary Flames, tallying a goal and two assists as the Canucks fired off five straight goals after falling behind 1-0 in the first period. Kevin Bieksa, David Booth, Jannik Hansen and Daniel Sedin had Vancouver’s other goals and Roberto Luongo stopped 21 shots for his first win in almost a month.
2 Ryan O'Reilly, Colorado Avalanche – O'Reilly tallied two goals to extend his point streak to three games, during which he has four goals and seven points. Paul Stastny and T.J. Galiardi also scored for the Avs and Semyon Varlamov stopped 27 of 29 shots for the win.
3 Casey Wellman, Minnesota Wild – Wellman tallied his first career multi-point game, helping spur the Wild’s comeback. The rookie tallied the game-tying goal and assisted on the go-ahead goal less than 40 seconds apart in the second period, to erase a 2-1 deficit in Anaheim. Dany Heatley, Pierre-Marc Bouchard, Nick Johnson and Cal Clutterbuck also scored for Minnesota and Josh Harding stopped 24 shots.
