Dustin Jeffrey

Without Sidney Crosby, the Pens have been needing people to step up and pick up the slack. Evgeni Malkin has been doing it a great deal lately. On Friday night, it was Dustin Jeffrey’s turn.

1) Dustin Jeffrey, Pittsburgh Penguins – Jeffrey tallied two goals and assisted on one more for his first points of the season in the NHL to help lead the Penguins past the Montreal Canadiens 5-4 in a shootout. Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin also scored in regulation for the Pens and Malkin scored the game-winning shootout goal. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 25 of 29 shots for the victory.

2) Cam Ward, Carolina Hurricanes – Ward stopped all 23 shots that he faced on Friday to stone the Capitals 3-0. Jussi Jokinen scored twice and Jiri Tlusty once to give the ‘Canes the advantage.

3) Teddy Purcell, Tampa Bay Lightning – Purcell scored both of Tampa’s goals in their 2-1 win over the Dallas Stars. Mathieu Garon stopped 27 of 28 shots for the win.

Play of the Night

Jiri Tlusty does his best Bobby Orr impersonation, only minus the Stanley Cup significance, on Friday night to put the ‘Canes up 3-0.

Save of the Night

Check out this glove save by Peter Budaj. The flourish at the end was so much that it even looked a bit painful for him.

Fight of the Night

Matt Hendricks and Derek Joslin got together, on Friday, for this animated fight. Pretty entertaining, despite a lack of solid punches landed.
