Mikka Kiprusoff

You can have your 9-8 games, Winnipeg and Philly, give me a good, old fashioned goaltenders duel any day of the week and I’m one happy camper. So, it turns out that Mikka Kiprusoff and Pekka Rinne made me one happy camper.

1) Mikka Kiprusoff, Calgary Flames – Kipper outdueled fellow Finnish goalie Pekka Rinne, stopping all 26 shots he faced, including 11 in the third period, to shutout the Predators 1-0. Scoring the lone goal for the Flames, and the first of his NHL career, was Derek Smith.

2) Ray Whitney, Phoenix Coyotes – The Wizard was magical on Tuesday, scoring once and assisting on two more as the Coyotes downed the Blackhawks by a score of 4-1. Mike Smith stopped 24 of 25 shots and Daymond Langkow, Shane Doan and Radim Vrbata scored the other goals for the ‘Yotes.

3) Zack Smith, Ottawa Senators – Smith scored twice for the Sens, including the game-winning power-play goal in the third to lead the Sens past the Jets by a score of 6-4. Milan Michalek also scored twice and Jason Spezza and Nick Foligno each scored once, while Craig Anderson stopped 39 of 43 shots for the win.

Play of the Night: The Sens made this beautiful passing play to set up Jason Spezza’s goal:

Save of the Night: Zack Kassian and Matt Martin get in this energetic fight that proves a fighting strap really isn’t much use if your pads are going to slide right off:

Hit of the Night: Former teammates collide as Blake Comeau levels Jack Hillen:
