When the Devils signed Ilya Kovalchuk to a $100 million dollar contract, I’m sure they had visions of 60-goal, 120-point seasons dancing in their heads. Until that time comes, though, they’ll settle for a few more nights like Kovi had on Wednesday.
1) Ilya Kovalchuk, New Jersey Devils – Kovalchuk scored a goal and assisted on Zach Parise’s game-winner to lead the Devils to a 2-1 overtime win against the Edmonton Oilers. Johan Hedberg stopped 22 of 23 shots for the win.
2) Tomas Vokoun, Washington Capitals – Vokoun was brilliant on Wednesday night, stopping all 30 shots he faced to lead the Caps to a 1-0 victory over the rival Penguins.
3) Jason Chimera, Washington Capitals – Vokoun might have made the saves, but Chimera had the lone goal – his 14th of the season – and is just three goals off of his career high nearing the season's halfway mark.
