If you asked someone residing north of the 49th parallel "did you watch the game" on Tuesday night, there was no need to be specific. Russia's 6-5 win over Canada for the World Junior Championship was worth the investment on two continents. In case you missed all or part of the six-game NHL slate, here is the Cliff's Notes version.
1) Joffrey Lupul, Toronto Maple Leafs – Lupul was the primary beneficiary of the Leafs' 7-goal outburst Tuesday, racking up four points — a goal and three assists. His 44 points are two off the league lead.
2) John Tavares, New York Islanders — Tavares had assists on three of the Islanders' four goals in their 4-3 shootout win over the Carolina Hurricanes. Check out his thread-the-needle pass to Kyle Okposo for the game-tying strike.
3) Drew Stafford, Buffalo Sabres – Stafford scored and collected two assists, including the primary helper – a long stretch pass – on an insurance goal by Nathan Gerbe that proved the game-winner in the Sabres' 4-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers.
