Remember when people were talking about Evgeni Malkin potentially being better than Sidney Crosby? Nights like Saturday night were the reason why.
1) Evgeni Malkin, Pittsburgh Penguins – Malkin was absolutely scintillating on Saturday night, tallying a hat trick and adding two assists in Pittsburgh’s 8-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres. Jason Williams, Simon Despres, James Neal, Deryk Engelland and Chris Kunitz also scored for Pittsburgh and Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 16 of 19 shots.
2) Tim Thomas, Boston Bruins – Thomas was spectacular in the cage for the Bruins once again, stopping all 31 shots that Philly threw at him Saturday night. Benoit Pouliot, Daniel Paille, Zdeno Chara, Milan Lucic, Nathan Horton and Tyler Seguin all scored for Boston, who won 6-0.
3) Cory Emmerton, Detroit Red Wings – Emmerton had quite the game on Saturday, tallying two goals and adding an assist to help the Red Wings storm past the Los Angeles Kings 8-2. Drew Miller scored twice for Detroit and Niklas Kronwall, Henrik Zetterberg, Pavel Datsyuk and Brad Stuart all scored once for Detroit.
Play of the Night
So, Jets fans, Teemu Selanne looks a lot like he did when he was first drafted, yeah?
Fight of the Night
Cody McLeod dominates Matt Hendricks in this tilt from Saturday.
Minus of the Night
I don’t like to make light of injuries, but seriously. Only Martin Havlat could injure himself getting off the bench.
