High scoring games are fun to watch, but nothing compares to the drama surrounding a good old-fashioned goaltender’s duel. Especially when that duel takes a scoreless game into overtime.
1) Chris Mason, Winnipeg Jets – Mason took a duel down to the wire for the Jets, stopping all 31 shots that he saw for a 1-0 overtime win against the Los Angeles Kings. Evander Kane scored the lone goal of the game and Jonathan Bernier stopped 26 of 27 shots.
2) Eric Staal, Carolina Hurricanes – Staal scored twice, including the game-winner, and added an assist to lead the ‘Canes past the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3. Brandon Sutter and Zac Dalpe also scored for Carolina and Cam Ward stopped 21 of 24 shots for the win.
3) J.T. Wyman, Tampa Bay Lightning – Wyman chose a good time to tally his first NHL points, scoring his first goal to spur on a Lightning rally and assisting on the game-winner to cap it off. Steven Stamkos, Marc-Andre Bergeron and Vincent Lecavalier scored for Tampa and Mathieu Garon stopped 31 of 34 shots.
