The Caps were expected to be one of the top teams in the Eastern Confrence this season and, once again, contend for the Presidents’ Trophy. While they are one of the Eastern Conference’s top teams, sitting atop the Southeast Division with 52 points, things haven’t gone exactly the way they expected. Michal Neuvirth’s second shutout of the season is more of what they expected, though.
1) Michal Neuvirth, Washington Capitals – Neuvirth stopped all 31 shots the Habs threw his way, including 17 in the third period, to lead the Caps to a 3-0 win. Mathieu Perreault, Marcus Johansson and Alex Ovechkin were the goal scorers for the Caps, who have now won seven of their last ten.
2) Peter Mueller, Colorado Avalanche – Mueller tallied two goals and an assist in Colorado’s 4-3 overtime win against the Florida Panthers. Paul Stastny and Ryan O’Reilly tallied Colorado’s other goals and J.S. Giguere stopped 26 of 29 shots for the win.
3) Francois Beauchemin, Anaheim Ducks – Beauchemin potted two goals and added an assist in Anaheim’s 6-2 win over the Phoenix Coyotes. Niklas Hagman, Jason Blake, Matt Beleskey and Corey Perry all scored for the Ducks and Jonas Hiller stopped 25 of 27 shots.
