A forward was the top star tonight but overall it was a night for the goaltenders, with eight goals being scored among the seven losing squads – three of which were scored by Vancouver. That’s a lot to get excited about for the winners, though. Just don’t forget to shake the captain’s hand.
1
Derek Roy, Buffalo Sabres – Roy scored just over two minutes into the game and assisted on two other Sabres goals to lead Buffalo past Ottawa by a score of 5-1. Matt Ellis, Jordan Leopold, Luke Adam and Ville Leino scored for Buffalo and Jhonas Enroth furthered his shocking cause to steal the starting position from Ryan Miller, stopping 36 of 37 shots.
2
Jimmy Howard, Detroit Red Wings – Howard stopped all 24 shots Edmonton threw at him to give the Wings a 3-0 win over the Oilers. Scoring for Detroit were Drew Miller, Niklas Kronwall and Valtteri Filppula.
3
James Neal, Pittsburgh Penguins – Neal scored a pair of power-play markers to give Pens the 3-1 advantage over the Dallas Stars in a match between the league’s top two teams. Matt Cooke scored his fifth of the year on a penalty shot and Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 19 of 20 shots to get his ninth win of the season.
Play of the Night
Eric Nystrom was the recipient of this beautiful pass from Radek Dvorak to get his fifth goal of the season:
Something tells me that Dallas suits Nystrom very well.
Save of the Night
Tomas Vokoun makes this beautiful save on red-hot Devils rookie Adam Henrique:
Oops
You could say that 8-year old Rangers fan Joseph Cook was just a tad nervous to drop the puck before the Rangers/Hurricanes game:
