Steven Stamkos and Alex Ovechkin both saw their teams trailing on Saturday and, as great players often do, both of them sparked their teams to a winning rally. Sure, tecnically speaking, the Caps' comeback was a bit more dazzling, but who's keeping track?
1) Steven Stamkos, Tampa Bay Lightning – Stamkos scored a goal in each period in Tampa’s 5-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes to lead the Bolts to their third-straight win. Teddy Purcell and Steve Downie scored Tampa’s other goals and Mathieu Garon stopped 24 of 26 shots for his third-straight win.
2) Alex Ovechkin, Washington Capitals – Any questions that the real Alex Ovechkin has returned should be sufficiently answered after his two-goal performance against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Ovi now has six goals and nine points in his last six games. Also scoring for Washington was Alexander Semin and Dennis Wideman, as the Caps came from two goals down with a four-goal third period. Tomas Vokoun got the win with a 35 save performance.
3) Jimmy Howard, Detroit Red Wings – Howard stopped all 31 shots he faced collecting his fourth shutout of the season in a 3-0 win over the St. Louis Blues. Johan Franzen, Justin Abdelkader and Jiri Hudler all scored for Detroit.
Play of the Night
Steven Stamkos scores with some terrific determination, powering his way through the Hurricanes to net the goal.
Save of the Night
Don’t ask me how Jimmy Howard saw this puck, but either way it was a nice save.
Hit of the Night
As you know, I enjoy a good hip check every now and again, and Alexei Emelin executed his with style.
