Steven Stamkos might have stumbled out of the gates, but his game has certainly picked up lately. Saturday night was just another one of those nights for Stamkos – which is to say that he scored. A lot.
1 Steven Stamkos, Tampa Bay Lightning – Stamkos scored twice and assisted another goal in Tampa's 5-1 dismantling of the Florida Panthers. Martin St. Louis, Ryan Malone and Tom Pyatt also scored for Tampa and Mathieu Garon saved 24 shots for his fifth win of the season.
2 Valtteri Filppula, Detroit Red Wings – Filppula also scored twice and assisted on one in Detroit's 4-1 win over the Nashville Predators. Henrik Zetterberg and Dan Cleary each scored once. Jiri Hudler had two assists and Jimmy Howard made 18 saves for the Wings.
3 Henrik Lundqvist, New York Rangers – King Henrik stopped all 29 shots he faced against the Flyers in our first preview of the 2012 Winter Classic, including 14 shots in the third, to give the Rangers a 2-0 win. Brad Richards and Carl Hagelin each scored for the Rangers.
