After starting out the season on a tear, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had been in a slump, tallying just three points in his last seven games. He certainly took care of that slump on Saturday.
1) Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Edmonton Oilers – Nugent-Hopkins tallied five assists in Edmonton’s 9-2 drubbing of the Chicago Blackhawks. Nugent Hopkins assisted on all three Taylor Hall goals, on Jordan Eberle’s goal and on Tom Gilbert’s power-play goal. Also scoring for the Oilers were Ales Hemsky, Ryan Jones, Ryan Smyth and Shawn Horcoff and Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 34 of 36 shots.
2) Joffrey Lupul, Toronto Maple Leafs – Joffrey Lupul scored a goal and tallied three assists in Toronto’s dismantling of the Washington Capitals. Tim Connolly, Matt Frattin, Tyler Bozak, Phil Kessel, Cody Franson and David Steckel each also scored for the Leafs, and Jonas Gustavsson stopped 40 of 41 shots to get the 7-1 win.
3) Chris Kelly, Boston Bruins – Kelly scored twice and assisted on one other as Boston cruised past the Isles 6-0. Tim Thomas made 23 saves for the shutout and Patrice Bergeron, Nathan Horton, Andrew Ference and Zdeno Chara had the other goals for the Bruins, who won their eighth straight contest.
Play of the Night: Tyler Seguin shows that he’s not just all goals, feathering this beautiful pass to Patrice Bergeron for Boston’s first goal of the evening:
Save of the Night: Jimmy Howard turns away Dustin Brown with this marvelous kick save:
Fight of the Night: It might not have been Dan Henderson and Shogun Rua, but this one was a pretty solid bout between Ryane Clowe and Krys Barch:
