As you may have noticed, the Three Stars were notably absent on Saturday and Sunday. This is because we will be lumping them into one big group on Monday, with the Weekend Warrior edition of the Three Stars of the Night. Enjoy! First Star: Jeff Deslauriers, Edmonton Oilers - Deslauriers may have found his game during the Olympic break, because this weekend he was absolutely scintillating in net for the Oilers. He stymied the Wild on Friday night with some beautiful saves, including a terrific blocker save robbing Owen Nolan on an open net. Sunday night, he came out and did it again, this time to the New Jersey Devils blanking them 2-0, with 22 saves. Second Star: Jarome Iginla, Calgary Flames - The Flames captain started the weekend with a solid performance against the Devils, assisting on Matt Stajan's game winner against the New Jersey Devils before coming out and dominating the Minnesota Wild (a trend, maybe?) with three goals and an assist in Calgary's 5-2 victory. Third Star: Tim Thomas, Boston Bruins - Thomas went 1-1-0 over the weekend, allowing just four goals in two games against the New York Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins. Thomas confounded both teams, making 30+ saves in each game and giving the Bruins a chance to win each time.
