Taylor Hall, considered to be the leading choice for the No. 1 overall pick in next summer's NHL entry draft, was named the CHL Player of the Week Oct. 28 and Boston Pizza OHL Player of the Week Oct. 26. The Windsor Spitfires forward led the OHL in scoring for the week ending Oct. 25, with six goals and four assists for 10 points in three games. He had a plus-minus rating of plus-7. Hall, a 17-year-old hailing from Kingston, Ont., began his week on Thursday with the first of his two consecutive four-point games, as the Spitfires defeated the London Knights 5-2. Hall was named the first star in the game for scoring two goals, including one short-handed, and adding two assists. On Friday, he scored a goal in all three periods – his second hat trick of the season – in a road win against the Owen Sound Attack. Hall added an assist in the 8-4 victory and was named first star for the second straight night. He finished his week Sunday in Windsor with a power-play goal and one assist, for two points in a 6-1 victory over the Belleville Bulls. He was named third star in the game. Hall currently leads the OHL in scoring with 34 points (16 goals, 18 assists) in 16 games. He is four points ahead of Tyler Seguin of the Plymouth Whalers (30 points), who is also eligible for the 2010 NHL draft. Spitfires teammates Adam Henrique, a New Jersey Devils prospect, was third in OHL in scoring (24 points), and Greg Nemisz, a Calgary Flames draftee, was fourth (23 points). Alex Friesen of the Niagara IceDogs, who went undrafted last year in his first year of eligibility, rounds out the top five OHL scorers (23 points). This is the third time in four weeks a Spitfires player has been named the OHL Player of the Week. Netminder Troy Passingham of the Spits was named Player of the Week for Oct. 12-18, while Henrique was named the Player of the Week from Sept. 28 to Oct. 4. Other nominees for the CHL Player of the Week honour included defenceman Charles-Olivier Roussel of the Shawinigan Cataractes, who was the QMJHL nominee for the award this week for scoring two goals with five assists for seven points in four games. WHL scoring leader Brandon Kozun of the Calgary Hitmen was also nominated for scoring three goals and six assists for nine points in four games. |
