The NHL has suspended Calgary Flames forward Olli Jokinen three games for delivering a cross-check to the head/neck of Phoenix Coyotes forward Wojtek Wolski on Wednesday night. Jokinen, who must forfeit $48,387.09 in salary, received a five-minute major and game misconduct on the play (below). “I take full responsibility for my stick action . . . a couple centimeters lower and it would have been on the arm or something. I don't think he missed a shift,” Jokinen told the Calgary Herald before the suspension was announced. “I texted their trainer to after the game to make sure (Wolski) was okay. I told him I was sorry, that I didn't mean it. If you look at the replay over and over again, you can see I wasn't going after his head. The stick hit his shoulder pad first . . . it was a battle in front of the benches - happens all the time. But as a player you have to be responsible for your actions and your stick and this time it took a good bounce off his shoulder pad and went to his neck area.” Jokinen will miss games against Chicago at home on Friday, at Detroit Saturday, and at the New York Rangers Monday.
