If we were to ask who the hottest player in the NHL was, likely the typical names would pop to mind. Evgeni Malkin, the Sedins, Alex Ovechkin, Pavel Datsyuk. If you thought of any of those names, however, you would be wrong. It’s none other than Sam Gagner.
1) Sam Gagner, Edmonton Oilers – The Oilers might have lost their battle against the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday night, but Sam Gagner continued his white hot scoring streak, extending his point streak to five games with his two goal game. Gagner now has 15 points in his last five games, including eight goals. Nikolai Khabibulin made 26 saves in the 4-2 loss. Johan Franzen, Cory Emmerton, Drew Miller and Henrik Zetterberg scored for the Red Wings and Joey MacDonald was the winning goalie.
2) Ryan Miller, Buffalo Sabres – Miller continued his recent hot streak, winning his fourth in five games and posting his second shutout in the process with his 36 save performance in Buffalo’s 6-0 win over the Boston Bruins. Jason Pominville scored twice and Christian Ehrhoff, Tyler Ennis, Patrick Kaleta and Drew Stafford all scored once for the Sabres.
3) Olli Jokinen, Calgary Flames – Jokinen stretched his point streak to four games with his three goal, four point outburst against the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday to lead the Flames to a 4-3 win. Jarome Iginla scored the other goal for the Flames and Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 34 of 37 shots for the win.
