It took so long for Scott Gomez to score a goal that there were websites devoted to his drought. Bars took up the cause, offering drink specials if he scored. Heck, he might even want to claim divine intervention, with a local Catholic church praying for the Habs. Whatever it was, though, Gomez finally broke his goal drought of 369 days.
1) Scott Gomez, Montreal Canadiens – All joking aside, Gomez picked a perfect time to score his first goal in over a year. His third-period goal would stand up to be the game-winner against a persistent Isles team. Max Pacioretty scored Montreal’s other three goals and Carey Price made 31 of 33 saves to get the 4-2 win.
2) Scott Hartnell, Philadelphia Flyers – The Flyers have been struggling lately, but Scott Hartnell sparked something in them on Thursday with his Gordie Howe Hat Trick. Max Talbot, Claude Giroux and Brayden Schenn also scored for the Flyers and Sergei Bobrovsky made 24 of 27 shots for the 4-3 win, but Hartnell’s unique goal celebration after his first-period goal stole the show for the night:
3) Jason Spezza, Ottawa Senators – Spezza scored twice and assisted on one more for the Sens, who seem to be the one team that finally found the secret formula to beating Pekka Rinne with their 4-3 win over the Nashville Predators. Chris Phillips scored Ottawa’s other two goals in his 1,000th career game and Alex Auld picked up the win, saving 24 of 27 shots.
Play of the Night
Rick Nash finishes off a beautiful power play with this goal that was set up so nicely, he was pretty much looking at a wide open net.
Save of the Night
Johan Hedberg channels a bit of Martin Brodeur, diving across the crease to make the save with his paddle.
