Two teams showed up in Montreal on Wednesday night. One looked like they were ready for an NHL contest, the other looked like they took to the All-Star break a little early.
1) David Desharnais, Montreal Canadiens – Desharnais tallied two goals and an assist for his second three-point affair in his last five games, during which he has seven points. Carey Price was a rock in net for the Habs, stopping 26 of 28 shots en route to a 7-2 drubbing of the Detroit Red Wings.
2) Erik Cole, Montreal Canadiens – Cole was the other three-point man for the Habs, talling a goal and two assists to help Montreal past the Wings. In addition to Desharnais and Cole, Rene Bourque, Alexei Emelin, Tomas Plekanec and Max Pacioretty also scored for the Habs.
3) Jiri Hudler, Detroit Red Wings – Hudler scored two goals, less than six minutes apart, in the third period to ruin Price’s shutout bid. Hudler now has three goals and four points in his last five games.
Play of the Night
If David Desharnais can do this off balance, imagine what he can do with his feet underneath him.
Minus of the Night
Ray Ferraro, of all people, should know that you never talk about a shutout in the process of a shutout taking place.
