In the seven games Sunday, the home team won four of them. There's nothing really notable there unless you consider one tied an NHL record for a home winning streak and another kept an impressive record alive. Those were the scenarios unfolding last night in Detroit and St. Louis.
1) Johan Franzen, Detroit Red Wings - The Red Wings have not lost in Detroit since Nov. 3. During their 20-game home winning streak that has equaled the mark set by the Bruins in 1929-30 and matched by the Flyers in 1976, Franzen has scored 11 goals. In the record-tying 4-3 victory over the Flyers, Franzen scored the game-winning goal just 52 seconds into the third period. Henrik Zetterberg added a goal and two assists while Pavel Datsyuk and Niklas Kronwall added power-play goals for Detroit, which can break the mark Tuesday against Dallas.
2) Jaroslav Halak, St. Louis Blues - The Blues have gained a point in their last 19 home games, going 16-0-3 since Dec. 3. Jaroslav Halak has four of his six shutouts during that stretch and his 25 saves led St. Louis to a 3-0 victory over the Sharks. David Perron scored for the sixth time in four games while Andy McDonald had an assist in his return from missing 51 games with a concussion.
3) Corey Perry, Anaheim Ducks - The laws of probability and statistics show that if the Ducks played the Blue Jackets 82 times, Perry would get a hat trick two out every four games. The laws of reality show that it's one of those fluky things that both of Perry's hat tricks have been against the Blue Jackets. Perry took a career-high 11 shots and three went in the net during Anaheim's 5-3 win in Columbus. Ryan Getzlaf had three assists as he set up Perry's two tallies in the opening period. Bobby Ryan and Jason Blake had the other goals for the Ducks, who have a point in 15 of their last 17 games but still trail eighth-place Phoenix by 11 points.
Goal of the Night
You didn't think we could do another one of these without mentioning Evgeni Malkin. In Pittsburgh's 4-2 victory over Tampa Bay, "Geno" had two more goals, giving him a league-best 69 points. He also scored in his eighth straight home game, five shy of the record set by Mario Lemieux in 1995-96 and one of those goals was this one-timer.
Goal of the Night (Honorable Mention)
It was quite a weekend for Ryan Callahan. After getting a hat trick in Saturday's 5-2 win in Philadelphia, Callahan scored again in New York's 3-2 win over the Capitals. He did so rather impressively with this nifty backhander.
Hit of the Night
Daniel Briere, meet Niklas Kronwall. If those two did not know each other before Sunday, they had a nice introduction with this punishing hit that Kronwall laid upon Briere early in the second period.
