We’re as surprised as anyone but, with 21 games left in their season, the Sens are just two points away from the top spot in the Northeast Division. If you saw that coming, you might want to buy a lottery ticket.
1) Erik Karlsson, Ottawa Senators – Karlson continued his terrific season on Monday, scoring twice and assisting on two more goals in Ottawa’s 6-0 rout of the New York Islanders. With his two assists, Karlsson is now third in the NHL in the category. Jason Spezza scored twice and Brian Lee and Chris Phillips each scored once to lead the Sens to the win.
2) Eric Staal, Carolina Hurricanes – Staal has been white hot lately and he kept it up on Monday, scoring twice and assisting on one other in Carolina’s 5-0 win over the Washington Capitals. Justin Faulk, Anthony Stewart and Andreas Nodl also scored for the ‘Canes and Justin Peters stopped all 17 shots he faced for the win.
3) Craig Anderson, Ottawa Senators – Craig Anderson picked up his second shutout in three games, stopping all 28 shots he faced, including 18 in the third period for the 6-0 win.
Take a Sip
Just once, we’d love to see the goal scorer pick up the water bottle and take a drink from it.
Fight of the Night
Troy Brouwer and Justin Faulk throw down in this brawl that sees Faulk skate away with a slight edge.
