It’s always hard to tell what will break a team out of a slump. Sometimes it’s a big hit, sometimes it’s a great goaltending performance. Other times, it might be a two goal game from one of your important players, like Brad Marchand did for the Bruins on Wednesday night.

1) Brad Marchand, Boston Bruins – The Boston Bruins desperately needed a game like they had on Wednesday night against the Blues, and Brad Marchand was at the center of it with his two goal performance. Milan Lucic and Chris Kelly scored the other goals for Boston and Tim Thomas made 30 of 32 saves for the 4-2 win.

2) Semyon Varlamov, Colorado Avalanche – J.S. Giguere has been the go-to guy in Colorado, stealing the job from Varlamov, who was the de facto starter at the beginning of the season. With Giguere out from injury now, Varlamov has seized the opportunity in the crease and is looking to take the starting job back. His latest effort was a 32 save, 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings. Paul Stastny scored twice and Mark Olver and Jay McClement each scored once in the win.

3) Erik Karlsson, Ottawa Senators – Karlsson continued his spectacular season for the Sens, tallying a goal and two assists in the Sens’ 5-2 win over the Washington Capitals. Milan Michalek scored twice and Chris Phillips and Nick Foligno each scored once, with Craig Anderson making 33 saves for the win.

Play of the Night

Dennis Wideman may be having a career season, but you can just call Milan Michalek the honey badger – he don’t care – putting the puck between Wideman’s legs before burying the puck.

Save of the Night

Semyon Varlamov keeps the Avs comfortably in the lead, robbing Dwight King with this beauty of a glove save.

Fun Fact of the Night

With 60 points on the season, Erik Karlsson now has just eight points fewer than the entire blue line of the Minnesota Wild.
