Northeast Division notebook: "It's definitely tough news when you find out you're not going to be playing hockey for four to six months," Komisarek told reporters Thursday. "It's been a tough little while here, the last couple of weeks, trying to figure out one way or the other whether surgery is going to be needed.” Komisarek will also have to give up his spot on the U.S. Olympic team. "Having a chance to represent your country in the Olympics is a huge honor, and you want to be a part of that," Komisarek said. "But I knew that it wouldn't be fair to go and play in the Olympics and have to shut my season down after I come back from Vancouver and miss the rest of the year." The United States men's hockey team named Ryan Whitney and Tim Gleason to its roster on Thursday afternoon. Paul Martin of the New Jersey Devils was also sidelined with a broken forearm. The 28-year-old Komisarek signed with the Maple Leafs last summer and had four assists in 34 games. In the meantime, Phaneuf and Giguere helped the Leafs to a 3-0 win against New Jersey on Tuesday. OTTAWA The Ottawa Senators extended their franchise-best win streak to 11 after collecting a 3-1 win over Vancouver on Thursday night. The win helped the Senators close within one point of the first-place Buffalo Sabres in the division standings. The Senators trained Buffalo by 13 points on Jan. 2 when the win streak started. … The Senators have posted a 24-6-4 record against Buffalo since the end of the 2004-05 lockout. … G Brian Elliott won his ninth straight game and continues to remain the starter despite the return of opening-night starter Pascal Leclaire (concussion) from injured reserve. … Ottawa’s win streak is only the second-longest run this year in the NHL. The Washington Capitals are curently on a 13-game win streak. It marks the first season in which two teams have posted winning streaks of 10 or more games since 1998-99. Colorado won 12 in a row and Pittsburgh scored 10 straight victories that year. BUFFALO The Sabres' home-ice unbeaten streak ended at 12 after the team lost to Ottawa on Wednesday night. … The loss was the second straight game in which the Sabres were slayed by a superstar. Daniel Alfredsson was the hero for the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday night, breaking a 2-2 tie with one minute to play. Two nights earlier they lost on Pittsburgh’s Sidney Crosby’s hat trick – over an eight-minute span of the second period. … Wednesday’s loss was sixth time the Sabres dropped consecutive games this season. … Jason Spezza has scored in the last seven games he’s played in for Buffalo. But the NHL only recognizes it as a five-game streak because the first two contests occurred before he was out for 20 games with a knee injury. … Spezza’s two-goal game against Ottawa was his first since last March 28 at Atlanta. Last season, he had seven multi-goal games. BOSTON The Bruins are amidst their longest winless streak since going 0-5-3 with a tie over nine games from Feb. 15 to March 3, 2003. After Thursday night’s loss to Montreal, the Boston Bruins extended their drought to three weeks without a win. The Bruins are 0-7-2 since Jan. 14 and 0-1-2 to start a four-game homestand. ... The Bruins last lost nine straight during a franchise record 11-game slide from December 3, 1924-January 5, 1925. … Boston is 13-12-4 as the host this year and has lost seven straight (0-6-1) at home. … TSN.ca reported on Wednesday that the Bruins were looking to trade Michael Ryder. MONTREAL The Habs snapped a three-game losing streak with Tuesday's close win over the visiting Canucks. … D Jaroslav Spacek returned to the lineup Thursday night after missing three games with an upper-body injury.
